The monument commemorates members of B Squadron, 3rd / 4th Cavalry Regiment who have died in service or have been killed in action in conflicts in which the Regiment has been involved. 

The regiment was formed in 1981 through the amalgamation of the 3rd Cavalry Regiment and the 4th Cavalry Regiment.  It has been involved in deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan and Timor Leste.
