The Vampire jet A79-612 commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Royal Australian Air Force (R.A.A.F.) Apprentice and J.E.A.T. scheme.
On the 2nd February 1948, the first group of 53 youths aged 15–17 who had been selected for engineering training under the R.A.A.F.’s new apprenticeship scheme entered the Ground Training School at Forest Hill (Allonville) outside Wagga Wagga.
