The monument commemorates those from the District who died in service or were killed in action in World War One and World War Two. Later conflicts after World War Two have been added to the memorial. 

The War Memorial was relocated to the Gawler RSL in Gawler West on the 18th June 2018 as a new memorial was unveiled in Pioneer Park.
