Front Inscription

Dedicated to nurses, both military and civilian, who suffered and died whilst representing Australia in times of conflict.

We used to hear the last post. Oh, a most harrowing sound floating across the river to the hospital…the river was between us and the cemetery.

Behind each ward tent was this little slab of cement and that was for putting the Sawyer stove on…on that you put the steriliser…and could boil up dressings. But you had to light it up. Of course, the wood was nearly always damp.
