Photographs supplied by John Huth

The gates commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One and World War Two.

The Urbenville War Memorial Gates at the Urbenville Showground were originally dedicated on the 8th March 1934 in memory of the 16 who had paid the supreme sacrifice of the 110 men who had enlisted from the district during World War One. The gates were erected by the Trooper's Welfare Committee at a cost of £100 and were officially opened by Mr . M.F.Bruxner, Deputy Premier and Minister for Transport. The gates were enlarged and rededicated on the 7th April 1951 to include the servicemen of Urbenville and District who had lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars.
