The statue of St Mary commemorates past nurses of St Vincent`s Hospital and those who have died.
The statue was originally located at Xavier Nurses Home which was demolished in 1984 and then at the Aikenhead Memorial Garden before relocation to its present site.

This statue of Mary was originally located on the Xavier Nurses Home which opened in March 1913 and was demolished in June 1984.
Mary was subsequently located in the Aikenhead Memorial Garden and has been relocated here as a tribute to past nurses of St. Vincents Hospital and as a memorial to those who have died.
