Front Inscription
This building was completed on 20 September 1909 as the Peter Nicol Russell School of Engineering
Engineering education began in the University in 1883. The Faculty of Engineering was established in 1920, and transferred to Darlington 1962 - 1975.
Sir Peter Nicol Russell was the proprietor of the first major engineering works in Sydney 1842 - 1875. He endowed engineering education in the university by a gift of £50,000 in 1896, following by a like endowment in 1904, with the condition that the Government provide a further £25,000 for a building. This was that building.
