The memorial commemorates the re- enactment of the visit of Colonel Light and Jacob and was unveiled as part of the Jubilee 150 celebrations which were held at Light Pass on the 26th to the 28th of September 1986.

A time capsule was also placed at the site and was re-opened in 2011 and was sealed to be re-opened in 2036.
