The plaque commemorates the opening of Investigator Park, named after the sloop "Investigator", commanded by explorer, Matthew Flinders.
HM Sloop Investigator was a survey ship of the Royal Navy. In 1802, under the command of Matthew Flinders, she was the first ship to circumnavigate Australia.

This plaque commemorates the opening of Investigator Park named after H. M. Sloop Investigator commanded by Captain Matthew Flinders R. N. who discovered and named Point Riley on 15th March 1802.
Unveiled by His Worship, Mayor Paul D. K. Thomas on 16th March 2002, at the Encounter 2002 Celebrations.
