The Jervis Entrance, in the form of an arch, was erected in 1936 to commemorate the foundation of the Gilberton Amateur Swimming Club by Percy Jervis.
The club was founded in 1915, and Percy Frank Jervis was one of the its founders and a supervisor at the club.  Jervis helped start the club after noting his own children`s interest in swimming.
