Australasia Mine Disaster Avenue of HonourPrint Page 
The Avenue of Honour planted at the site of the Australasia Mine commemorates the 27 miners who were trapped underground in the flooded mine in 1882. The avenue was planted in 2007, the 125th anniversary of the tragedy.
A cairn is located at the site of the Australasian No 2 mine which was flooded in December 1882, drowning twenty-two men. Five men were rescued. Over three days, a frantic rescue was attempted to find 27 men underground.
