This memorial is dedicated to merchant seamen who died in South Australian waters between 1942 - 1974 and who are buried nearby in Cheltenham Cemetery

Traditionally, a diverse group of religious societies and missions provided physical. moral and spiritual support to seamen of all nationalities visiting our ports.

The memorial symbolises the seamen`s final haven
