Opening of Mount William RoadPrint Page 
The cairn commemorates the opening of Mount William Road in 1963. It also contains a plaque to Major Thomas Mitchell. The cairn was built by the Country Roads Board and replaces the original cairn which marked the highest point in the Grampians.

The Hon. W. J. Mibus M.L.A. Minister of Water Supply and Mines unveiled this cairn to commemorate the opening of the Mt. William Road.
