The plaque commemorates the Gladstone Harbour Board for the part in played in providing facilities for commerce.
The Gladstone Harbour Board was established under "The Gladstone Harbour Board Act of 1913" which was assented to on 26 November 1913 to take effect from 1 January 1914. The Gladstone Harbour Board became the Gladstone Port Authority on 30 June 1986.
