Seafarers & Pioneers of Port Germein & DistrictPrint Page
The monument, consisting of an anchor and a plough, commemorates the seafarers and pioneers of the Port Germein District from 1878 to 1978. It was unveiled during the Port Germein centenary held on the 6th- 9th October 1978.
Port Germein was named after Samuel Germein, who discovered it in 1840, though some credit his brother John with the discovery. The township was proclaimed in 1878.
