The "Lights on the Hill" memorial commemorates Slim and Joy Dusty, patrons of the Re-car National Truck Drivers Memorial for their dedication to country music. Slim was an Honourary Patron for the ATDM along with his wife Joy McKean and Jan Maher-Martyn. He also held the very high honour of being inducted into the National Road Transport Hall of Fame in 2000 along with his wife Joy.
David Gordon "Slim Dusty" Kirkpatrick AO, MBE (13 June 1927—19 September 2003) was an Australian country music singer-songwriter. He sold more than seven million record albums and singles in Australia. Slim Dusty's wife was the singer-songwriter Joy McKean.
