The monument commemorates Mrs Jane Robinson who taught thousands of children to swim in the Wimmera River. An information board is located adjacent to the monument.
She was widely known as the local swimming instructor from 1910, and was awarded a life membership of the Swimming Club in 1938 for outstanding contribution to the club and the community. She taught swimming using a swimming crate made from a timber deck and 44 gallon drums.
