A white marble drinking fountain, erected by his friends, commemorates the work of `Ned` Williams  who took a leading part in the transformation of a swampy waste into Lake Wendouree and the promotion of aquatic and `other manly sports`. 

The fountain was unveiled at the conclusion of the sculling championship which was held on the 18th December 1901.

Died at Ballarat
September 7th 1900.

His heart was kind and true.

He took a leading part in transforming Wendouree from a swampy waste into a picturesque lake and was ever foremost in establishing and promoting aquatic and other manly sports.
