A monument commemorates editor and journalist Sydney John Webb who planted a row of oaks along the highway in 1890 after his retirement to Narre Warren. A plaque was unveiled in 1990 to commemrate the centenary of the planting of the oaks.
Sydney Webb is remembered for his contribution to the Narre Warren community. He donated land for the Webb Street primary school and the Mechanics’ institute, planted the avenue of oak trees on the Princes highway (these trees came from the Nobelius nursery) and is also believed to have instigated the railway station at Narre Warren.
