The plaque commemorates the naming of Point Pearce by Matthew Flinders in 1802. The featture named by Flinders is now known as Wardang Island and the name of Point Pearce has been applied to a prominent point on the mainland.

Matthew Flinders R.N.
(1774 - 1814)
Commander of H. M. Sloop "Investigator" on 18 March 1802 applied the name Point Pearce to an island-like point after an Admiralty official.
The feature named by Flinders is now known as Wardang Island.
The name Point Pearce being applied to the prominent point on the main land.
Unveiled Pioneers Day April 1948.
