The J. D. Bennett Memorial Sporting Complex commemorates James Bennett O.B.E. for his lifetime contribution to the Barcaldine community and his lifelong interest in sport. 

James Bennett served as Shire Chairman for 32 years during his time on council (1943 - 1985).
