The gates are dedicated to the memory of the Member for Monaro, John Wesley Seiffert who died in 1965. Seiffert Oval was named after him.

John Wesley Seiffert (1905 – 1965) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly  rom 1941 until his death in 1965. He was a member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) but stood at an Independent Labor candidate at the 1950 state election.

In May 1941 he won the Legislative Assembly seat of Monaro as a Labour candidate. His electorate, based on Queanbeyan, had been a Country Party stronghold, but he increased his majority in each election and held the seat until his death.
