The bust commemorates King George V who died in 1936.
George V (George Frederick Ernest Albert; 3 June 1865 – 20 January 1936) was King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and Emperor of India, from 6 May 1910 until his death in 1936.
The decision of Hamilton citizens to erect a memorial In the form of an obelisk to the late King George V. has been rescinded. At a public meeting in the town hall, over which the mayor (Cr. J. Young) presided, it was decided to expend a slightly larger sum and erect a bust of the late King in the Hamilton Botanical Gardens. This will cost approximately £100, and will be erected by a local firm.
The Age (Melbourne), 25 September 1936.
