Lieutenant George IngramPrint Page
A monument commemorates Victoria Cross medal recipient and local resident George Ingram.
Prior to the signing of the Armistice on 11th November 1918, one of the last great battles took place at Montbrehan, France in October 1918. Lieutenant Ingram, whose company commander had been wounded, took charge of the advance into Montbrehan.
He rushed ahead of his men out over open machine-gun fire and swept ground to capture enemy posts and after further heavy fighting, the Germans lost this vital village. It was for his bravery that day that Lieutenant Ingram was awarded the highest honor for bravery – the Victoria Cross.
