Memorial plaque unveiled in honour of Corporal Ashley Birt who was killed in Afghanistan on 29th October 2011.
Corporal Birt and two of his colleagues, Captain Bryce Duffy and Lance Corporate Luke Gavin, were gunned down by a rogue member of the Afghan National Army. Corporal Birt was the first Gympie local to be killed in action since two soldiers died in the Vietnam War.
