The plaque erected over the grave by the students and the teachers of St Andrews Sunday School, Queenscliff, commemorates John Harper who died in November 1894.
John Harper was also a member of the Victorian Permanent Artillery and his name appears on the Victorian Permanent Artillery Obelisk in the cemetery.
