The garden commemorates naturalist and Manilla store keeper Harry Burrell (1873 - 1945). The garden features a sculptured plaque and platypuses.
He was a specialist in the Platypus after many decades of intensive research along the Manilla, Namoi and McDonald rivers. In 1927 he published his findings in his book "The Platypus", and in 1937 was awarded an Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) for his contribution to the understanding of animal anatomy.
