This cairn is erected to honour a pioneer of North Queensland
Severin Berner (Barney) Andreassen
1863 - 1937
A native of Norway, he came to Australia in 1884, to Cooktown, then to Port Douglas and Mowbray River.
During an active life as a mariner and then a farmer, he gave 19 years of voluntary service to the Douglas Shire as Councillor 1914 - 1927 and Chairman 1927 - 1933.
