The fountain was erected in memory of F. W. Drevermann who was an important pioneer in the district.

The fountain was erected by a grateful Shire in December 1901 to perpetuate Drevermann`s memory as a pioneer and citizen of Bairnsdale. The designer of the fountain is not known.
