The rose garden commemorates Albert Hedges who died following injuries while on duty at Berrima Gaol.
In 1959, Albert Hedges was bashed and locked in a shed during an escape attempt at Berrima Gaol. He survived and after rehabilitation returned to work. However he injuries were so severe he was medically retired and passed away several years later.
