The plaque commemorates Manabu Kondo who was killed when he crashed a jet-powered car he had intended to take back to Japan at Heathcote Park Raceway on October 8, 2006.

Mr Kondo, 38, from Hachioji near Tokyo, had bought the car, dubbed Aussie Thunder, from New South Wales man Kevin Hickling.  Mr Hickling sold the car to Mr Kondo on the understanding it would be used as a display vehicle and would not be raced.
