The plaque commemorates station master Frank Thomson who lost his life while on duty in 1972 when he was stabbed to death when he endeavoured to stop a person without a ticket.

He was stabbed after chasing the male attacker who had slashed an elderly lady at the platform and was running through a suburban train, causing panic.  A colleague, Ado Hint, chased him with a baggage barrow before local police arrived and disarmed the attacker, who submitted meekly.
